When children should stay home from daycare...
Some symptoms that might indicate the need for a child to stay home or be excluded while in daycare until a parent arrives to pick them up include:
- Fever of 100.4 degrees F or higher (child must be fever and Tylenol free for 24 hours before returning to the day care.)
- Vomiting on 2 or more occasions within a 24 hour period
- Diarrhea of 3 or more watery stools within a 24 hour period
- Body rash not associated with diapering, heat or allergic reaction, especially with a fever or itching
- Eye discharge or pink-eye… children can be re-admitted after 1) a medical diagnosis to rule out bacterial infection or 2) 24 hours after beginning of antibiotic treatment
- Fatigue that prevents participation in regular activities
- Unusual appearance/behavior to include: pale, lack of appetite, difficult to wake, confused or irritable
- Sore throat, especially if associated with fever or swollen glands in the neck, headache, or stomach ache
- Symptoms of any childhood communicable disease (i.e.: chicken pox, measles and mumps)
- Ear discharge or excessive ear rubbing/pulling
- Children who have lice may not return to daycare until they are louse and nit (egg) free
